The Limerick Practice was established in 1902 when Clifford Smith won an international competition for Shannon Rowing Club. The Practice developed predominantly in the Munster region with significant residential and commercial work including shops and banks, the library in Adare being one of the more memorable buildings. Sketch schemes survive for an anti-submarine trap from the First World War period. Edward Newenham became a partner in 1928 and developed the Practice. Some of his modern houses are noted in Sean Rothery’s “Ireland and the New Architecture 1900-1940”.
